1. Child Rights alliance
CRA empowers local bodies like School Management Committees (SMCs) and Child Rights Protection Committees (CRPCs) by enhancing their knowledge of child-related laws and advocating for better legislation, including the Right to Education (RTE) Act and child labor laws. Our member organizations, mainly from Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, have been connected since 2006, working on issues like education access and child protection.
Mission:
“Creating an enabling environment where children enjoy their right to survival, protection, development, and participation by working with communities and other stakeholders.”
Our Objectives (Based on UNCRC Thematic Clustering)
- Right to Education: Ensure inclusive and quality education for all children, reduce school dropouts, improve retention rates, and enhance the overall quality of education.
- Right to Survival: Ensure child health, combat malnourishment, and promote overall well-being.
- Right to Protection: Prevent child marriage, trafficking, and abuse, and create child labor-free zones by fostering a safe and supportive environment.
- Right to Development: Promote holistic child growth by addressing physical, social, and behavioral development.
CRA remains committed to working directly in the field with local NGOs, studying child issues within communities, and advocating for positive change at all levels.
2. Kisan Mitra Central India
Overview: For over a decade, the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra and neighboring districts of Madhya Pradesh have been grappling with a severe agrarian crisis. Widespread crop failures and crippling debt have driven many farmers to despair, leading to a tragic increase in suicides and mass migration. This alarming trend has not only devastated communities but has also led to the rapid depletion of both population and resources in these areas.
Recognizing the urgent need to reverse this trend, Kisan Mitra—a network of 36 organizations—has taken a proactive role in creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for farmers. By focusing on economically viable and sustainable agricultural practices, these NGOs are actively involved in rural development and are working to restore hope and stability in the affected regions. Their efforts aim to empower farmers and landless laborers, particularly women and tribal communities, through innovative and sustainable agricultural models that promote food security and self-reliance.
Vision: “To ensure livelihood and food security for marginalized farmers and landless laborers, with a particular focus on women and tribal communities, by making agriculture economically viable, self-reliant, and sustainable.”
Objectives:
- Support for Farmers’ Widows: Address the urgent needs and challenges faced by the widows of farmers in Vidarbha, providing them with necessary support and resources.
- Policy Advocacy: Advocate for policy changes that address the root causes of the agrarian crisis, including promoting alternative food crops, sustainable land use, and effective water management.
- Capacity Building: Empower rural farmers and women to demand their rights from the state, enhancing their ability to secure livelihoods and protect their interests.
- Social Security Advocacy: Advocate for the proper implementation of social security programs, ensuring that vulnerable populations receive the benefits they are entitled to.
- Enhancement of Widow Pensions: Push for the immediate enhancement of widow pensions, ensuring that those affected by the crisis receive adequate financial support.
